England will Degrees Competition ‘Hacker Idol’
A competition to find talent in the field of computer security teased with the nickname ‘Hacker Idol’. Could these activities find hidden talents?
The competition is planned to be held by the British government in 2010. As quoted from The Register, Tuesday (13/10/2009), the competition was intended to filter out the best talents in the UK computer security field.
Participants will be judged on their ability to block attacks and security through a site. Winners will receive training from renowned institutions SANS Institute.
In addition, winners will also get a chance to study at university and job placement. TimesOnline.co.uk reported one of them is working in government with a six-figure salary (hundreds of thousands of billions of pounds or dollars).
Although not yet started, the competition had already started to get a half-mocking nickname: Hacker Idol.
Events such as American Idol and the like are until now still debated its ability to bring hidden talents. Most successful artists actually attend from outside competition.
Likewise criticism for ‘Hacker Idol’ tesebut. A researcher’s security, Chris Bod from FaceTime, called the UK will get the same results by using the ‘prophecies and incantations’.
Competition to be held by the British government is adapting a similar competition in the United States entitled ‘U.S. Cyber Challenge’.
