One country, all elementary school students were given Free Laptop
Montevideo – Good for elementary school students in Uruguay. Local authorities provide all primary school students in the country each with a free laptop in order to develop education.
Uruguay became the first country in the world to successfully carry out the program. President of Uruguay Tabaré Vázquez was proudly handed over a laptop in the city of Montevideo last as a sign of the project a success.
Urugay Government in cooperation with the Foundation One Laptop per Child, Nicholas institutions Negropronte initiated to provide laptops for students in developing countries. One laptop with service and training costs for each child valued around 159 pounds.
Overall, the project budget only takes less than 5 percent of all education spending in Latin American countries. Laptops are divided in about 400 thousand students this is the type of the XO OLPC production with features such as the Linux operating system, WiFi and the battery lasts.
Tuesday (20/10/2009), 70 percent of students who received no previous laptop computers. For most students, even this is the first time they can access the Internet and computer technology.

“We will help them in terms of tenders, planning, evaluation, software will be used and so on. Many countries are too afraid to make this program a reality,” Brechner said.
